Troubleshooting

Lokate does not track me

I see no trace following me even though I have started an assignment.

Solution: Allow Lokate access to location services. In Settings, scroll down to Lokate and under "Location" select "While Using the App" or "Always" (see also working with CalTopo below).

The heading information shows "Cal Compass"

This indicates the iPhone's compass is out of calibration or not working properly.

Solutions (try in order):

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services and turn on Compass Calibration
  2. Under Settings > Compass, turn True North to OFF. Open the Compass app on a flat surface and verify it works. Turn True North back on.
  3. If using a magnetic case, turn the iPhone upside down and tap a few times on the back
  4. If compass still doesn't work, perform a force restart (see below)

Importing data fails

When you select Lokate as the import target, Lokate shows but no imports are visible.

Solution: This may happen when the app was shut down during a previous import or when the third-party app was recently updated. A force restart of your iPhone is necessary to restore importing capabilities.

Working with CalTopo

Lokate can record GPS data side by side with CalTopo. You may operate either in the background. For Lokate to continue recording while in the background, set Location to "Always" in system settings.

iPhone Force Restart

  1. Press and quickly release the volume up button
  2. Press and quickly release the volume down button
  3. Press and hold the side button
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the side button
