The Lokate Assistant

Lokate includes an assistant you can ask about your log forms, and — from inside an open log — for advice on what you have just recorded. This page explains what it is, exactly what leaves your device, how long it is kept, and what you are agreeing to. It is the full version of the short notice the app shows you in the field.

What it is

A conversation about your log forms, and optionally about a filled-in log. It is run by Intellecy and answered by a language model — not a person. It is experimental: results vary, and you should read what it gives you before relying on it.

One consent, and it gates everything

There is a single consent covering everything the assistant does. You agree to it once. Until you do, the assistant does nothing — no assistant on your form list, none inside a form, and no Advice button in a log. You are not asked again each time; and you can withdraw it at any time, which switches the whole feature back off.

What leaves your device

This differs by what you are doing.

Asking about a form

Sends the form you are discussing and the lists behind its fields, including the entries you have added — such as trail layers, evaluators and training locations. Those name real people and places. This is not anonymous, and we do not describe it as such.

Asking for advice about a filled log

Sends the log itself — the answers you have filled in, which can include locations, findings and sometimes details about a subject — together with the form and its lists. This is the only place in Lokate where a log leaves your device, and the app tells you so, in orange, before you type.

What is never sent

Photographs, other assignments, other logs, and your GPS tracks. If that ever changes, it will be a new consent you are asked for separately — never a quiet widening of this one.

How long it is kept

  • A log sent for advice is held in memory only while your conversation is live, cleared after about two hours of inactivity, and never written to disk. This is a deliberate server-side rule, not a promise about intentions.
  • A conversation that carries only a form (no log) may be kept on our server, so a follow-up question keeps its context.

Nothing is applied automatically

If the assistant returns a form, it is offered — you tap Save to keep it. Your old logs are never altered. When a form is revised, the new version is saved beside the original, never over it: a template travels with the log it produced, and rewriting it after the fact is exactly what gets picked apart later.

Limits and disclaimer

The assistant gives advice, not certification guidance. It does not make a form compliant with NSDA, NASAR, ASTM or any other body, and it does not certify anything. You remain responsible for what your record says. It is experimental and can be wrong — check what it gives you before you rely on it.

Withdrawing consent

Your consent shows as one line in the app's Settings — “Assistant — consent given [date]” with a Withdraw button — and that same row is how you turn it on if you have not yet. Withdrawing stops the assistant until you agree again. Be aware of the asymmetry, stated plainly: a log was never written to disk, so there is nothing to delete; anything already sent in a form conversation may still be held.

This is the single consent, agreed once, that turns the assistant on. The app records the version you agreed to.

You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings; the assistant then stops until you agree again. A log was never written to disk, so there is nothing to delete; anything already sent in a form conversation may still be held.

Versions

The consent carries an identifier and an effective date — the date that text took effect, not the date this page was last edited. Fixing a typo does not change it. Changing what is sent, who handles it, or how long it is kept does: that becomes a new version with a new date, and everyone is asked again. The app records which version you agreed to, so “you consented” always points to the exact wording you saw.

Current: aiic-v1, effective the app’s release. There are no superseded versions yet; when there are, each will remain readable here with its own identifier and date.
